BUTTONS-

While at the Elkhorn Flea Market this Sunday I saw a large table filled with button! Every size,shape,color,image,age...Buttons in bags, in boxes, in vintage tins, in plastic bags, sewn on lampshades, pieces of fabric....
Remember Mom saving buttons from worn out clothes! Of course she reused them when sewing new outfits!! How many save buttons now ?? How many sew dresses now ?? 

 CARPE DIEM !!

Where has the time gone?? When I started the blog recently retired
thought I'd never work again!! Ha-ha, high maintenance kitties 
called for a change in plans. Off to work I went as an
assistant to a real-estate  property manager  doing all the things
it takes to get a home to market-and sometimes it almost takes a
village!! While I still love flea mkts, estate sales, gardening, etc,
driving thru many towns from Elgin to Lindenhurst have seen some 
funny, pretty, interesting, scenes whether it be a cute mailbox, 
abandoned once beautiful barn, furry llamas, elegant swans
raising a family, I will share those pictures with you and hope
you too enjoy the ride!!

This weed invaded my garden in the Spring. No one knew what it was but Google did which led me to the Morton Arboreatum, U of I Master Gardeners, and other sources to figure out how to remove the eight foot tall weed safely. It's like a Steven King book, haunting you. I will forever be looking for another as I fear the invasion has begun.

It IS Spring!! They are arriving! Go to the website above to see if they are in your neighborhood yet. Not many flowers around here for them to feast so I must put out the liquid feeder. Last year the butterflies and hummingbirds loved my lantana....

Friday Fun!!!

It was the worst of times <rain, freezing cold> and the best of times <Shopping the Shed>!!
Despite mean Mother Nature there were so many treasures and inspirations. Lots of shoppers even at 1100am when we arrived. What a cute shed <flower box at the window of course> with interesting items..loved the metal, garden chandelier decorated with moss at the light socket, vintage garden statues <I shuda bought the swans>, painted wood furniture and darling terrariums, tiny moss gardens -you know the fairies would live there!  Of course I had to buy the macaroon cookies from the parisiennefarmgirl  - delicious, absolutely delicious - the lavender was my favorite! If you have a moment please visit their blogs www.savvycityfarmer.com  and www.parisiennefarmgirl.com  to enjoy pictures of the event!!

A New Kid On The Block !!

While shopping at the JunkWarehouse in Barrington I notice a new  small store...Tattered Tiques <with the cutest terrier dog face in their sign> specializing in antique/shabby/vintage/farm/industrial treasures. My eyes saw many tempting items but since I'm cleaning out vs bringing home decided to hold off a buying spree...for at least the rest of this month! Their web site is www.tatteredtiques.com .

Hairry has been on night patrol, I have the day shift but no Roxy! Neighbor reported the fox by her pond--with a fishing pole no doubt!

Little Red Riding Hood Beware!!

There is a red-tailed fox in the neighborhood!! Late one night I thought I saw a big red "puddy cat" with a huge bushy red tail!! Last night my night watch cat Hairry was sounding the alert jumping from window to window. I could only watch with amazement as foxy was zooming thru my backyard with the speed of a missile! Targeting mice, voles, moles undoubtedly of which we have an abundance!! Hopefully soon I will get a picture of the rascal--keeping my camera by my side!!

2011 Snow Day!!

Finally, after 2 hours trying to "capture" these pics from my computer to send-don't ask how I finally did it-here are photos of my house and neighbors helping all to "dig out"! Might add that I had to take backdoor storm window out to shovel from inside out, then to front door to clear that! Almost had to crawl out a bedroom window to get out of house! In all years of living here on and off never like this before. Mom and Dad should've seen this day!!
